Exciting announcement! Three of us have created a blog site called “Accounting is Analytics.” This site houses data analytics teaching materials (cases and instructional material) for introductory accounting. We (Wendy Tietz, Jennifer Cainas, and Tracie Miller-Nobles) develop cases for Excel, Power BI, and/or Tableau that are suitable for introductory accounting classes. All materials are free for you to use and adapt to your own classes. (We do ask that you do not publish the cases – the materials are for use in your own classes.) We are continually adding new cases, so stay tuned. Subscribe to our blog, so that you can be notified when we add new cases.
Over the past two years, I have been posting data analytics cases for introductory accounting to my blog, Accounting in the Headlines. Now my blog will go back to containing real-life news stories for use in the introductory accounting classroom and new analytics materials will be located on the new Accounting is Analytics blog.
Do check out the new Accounting is Analytics website; there are some brand-new cases on it that have not been shared anywhere else – with more cases in the pipeline.
As always, there is no cost to you or your students to use our materials.
Have a great day – and I would leave to hear what you think about our new site.
Wendy
Thanks for sharing this, Wendy!
You are welcome! We are really excited about the new site:)
This is amazing! Looking forward to using some of them in my classes.
Thank you!!!
Hi Wendy,
This information regarding data analytics in accounting is a HOT topic. I am glad you are addressing it. I teach Intro Accounting/Business courses at a community college in NJ and I just watched a webinar on Tableau from my textbook publisher McGraw Hill. Also, I’m enrolled in a doctoral program and the class I’m taking now is BI(Business Intelligence). So I do not know if this is a coincidence that analytics is being presented to me all at the time or just a freak of nature. Either way, I’m here for it. LOL Thank you so much for the article I will be using the case studies in my classes this semester.
Yes, analytics is growing rapidly in organizations today – that’s why you are seeing it everywhere. We also offer webinars twice a month; the first one is in February – see https://accountingisdataanalytics.com/webinars/ to register. Each webinar will feature a different case or tool. We will talk through how to use the case or tool in class and give additional background. Sounds like you have a busy schedule – good luck in your doctoral program.
