What do you think of the new blog post format that includes a tutorial video?

Earlier today, I shared a new blog post (How does Amazon’s stock split impact its stockholders’ equity? link.) In this blog post, I experimented with a new blog post format. I started with the story about Amazon’s stock split as I have done in the past. Next, however, I included a short explanatory video about stock splits in general. The short video does not mention Amazon’s stock split, but goes through the basic accounting for stock splits. This short video is meant to be a refresher for students before they answer the blog post questions. Then after the video, the discussion questions are listed. Essentially, the new part of the blog post is the tutorial video offered in the middle of the blog post. I have one other blog post later this week coming out with a tutorial video.

I am curious what you think. Should I continue to include a tutorial video with the blog posts? Just looking for feedback. I may or may not continue this format after this week – or I could do a combination of blog posts with and without tutorial videos. You can reply to this post with your feedback.

Thanks for reading this! I hope your semester is going well.

  2. I think the video is a wonderful inclusion!!!!!!

  3. I loved it. It allows my students to watch the video and understand new concepts in Accounting.

  4. Great idea! It allows students who may not be in class that day to have an overview they might have missed in class.

  5. I liked this short, quick exercise and assigned it to my class today as we return from Spring Break.

  6. Wendy, I liked the video tutorial addition. It was a good lead-in to the questions. However, it did not cover all the questions–which would have made the video longer, but more helpful. Thank you for all you share–it is so informative and useful.

So noted, just trying to walk that (fine) line between too much help and too little:)

  7. The idea of including a tutorial video with the post is excellent.

  8. I think it is a great addition to your already very useful posts. Thank you!!

  9. I liked the format and hope you will continue it! I read through the headline and immediately clicked on the video. It was short and to the point with the facts the students would need to discuss before providing their responses.

  10. I love the inclusion of a video! Great idea!

  11. Great. I love the concept. Students are reminded of the concepts before answering the questions.

  12. I think it’s an excellent addition! It gives students a reminder/refresher of the topics before they respond to the case!

  13. Love it!
