7 Excel projects for managerial accounting

Welcome to the spring semester! I thought I would repost this information as you are getting ready to kick off the new semester. If you teach managerial accounting, you may want to look at Dr. Karen Braun’s Excel projects for managerial accounting. She has created seven Excel projects on various topics in managerial accounting, complete with step-by-step student instructions and instructor solutions. The topics include:

  • Job costing
  • Cost behavior
  • CVP analysis
  • Process costing
  • Budgeting
  • Flexible budgeting
  • Division evaluation

Note: Karen Braun, an accounting professor at Case Western Reserve University, is my co-author on our Managerial Accounting textbook, so I know her and her work well. These projects are superb. I urge you to use one or more of them in your introductory managerial accounting class – her materials make the integration of these projects into the classroom go well. There is no cost for these projects and you can edit them as you wish for non-commercial purposes.

    ?Are these downloadable or do the students work on them online. We walk a fine line here with Corporate counsel whose view is that anything not in D2L (Blackboard for the impoverished) violates privacy rules.

      Stephen: You would download the projects and post them to Blackboard. Do not give the URL to students – those have the solutions.

    Thanks, Wendy! As a matter of face I AM using a few of Karen’s excel projects at SDSU this semester! 🙂

    I’m working on integrating some of your DA into the class as well. So little time and so much to teach them!
